For Amanda and Zach’s Engagement shoot, we wanted to set something up that really portrayed who they are as a couple. The words we used as inspiration for our shoot was warm, intimate, cuddly, and romantic. The unexpected rain actually made for the perfect backdrop! We shot the whole shoot on the campus of Rice University, which provided us with plenty of natural beauty as well as some interesting architectural elements. The soft lighting and dark sky couldn’t have felt more dreamy, especially when Zach wrapped his fiancee up in her grandmother’s hand-me-down quilt. Could this couple be any cuter? I’ve never seen a soon-to-be hubby be so excited to marry his girl.

Ah, the ring. The rock. The symbol on our fingers forever. The reminder that someone out there holds your heart forever. I hope that when Derek (my Hubsy) looks at his ring, maybe during a hard day at work or while he’s nervous during a presentation or whatever–I hope that he sees it and it reminds him that his wife (hey that’s me!) always has his back. A ring doesn’t have to be made of gold or have lots of diamonds to do that (although who doesn’t love a little sparkle). A ring could be a 4 carat diamond from Tiffany’s or a cheap estate sale find or even a grandmother’s hand-me-down and all can hold the same meaning. A ring, kind of like a good photograph, serves as a memory-keeper for us. It can remind us of the day of the proposal, the wedding day. Or it can remind us that it’s time to quit working and go home. It can remind us to do something special for the one we love, or it can remind us that it’s time to apologize for that stupid little argument we just had. Wedding rings are sacred. They’re one of the few material possessions in life that actually MEAN something more–like a good photograph! Here a just a few of my favorite ring shots as of late:

I was very fortunate to be asked to photograph the wedding of Elissa and Robert in Beaumont, TX. Their wedding took place in a GORGEOUS Episcopalian Church built hundreds of years ago. Though photographs aren’t permitted inside during the ceremony, I was graciously allowed to shoot from the balcony. And thank goodness. Because I am in love with this shot.

I’m a big believer in arriving to my weddings EARLY to get the detail shots like this:

And this:

And, of course, we can’t forget the dress:

And how perfect is this shot??! Could I possibly have had a better venue?!

And I just can’t get over the softness of Elissa’s bouquet…

The couple’s reception was picture perfect, with natural light flooding the ballroom through tons of architecturally fascinating old windows. Mmm…love me some interior character.

:)

Of course, I wouldn’t leave without the classic “Bling” Picture.

I can’t get enough of this family!! Cheyne and Lori Faber have been married for about 8 years, and in that time have managed to create this wonderful, sweet, and FULL of energy family unit. Their three kids, Clay, Josh, and Katelyn were SO much fun to shoot–not to mention they live right beside this gorgeous field which was full of this soft fog for our session!

Katelyn is just a photographer’s DREAM to photograph!

Nothing makes me happier than looking at a photo and literally SEEING the personality jumping out. LOVE Clay and Josh in these.

It is impossible to look at these and not fall in love with this little man.

I really enjoy stumbling upon little moments like this. You can’t plan or pose the really good stuff; it just happens.
