Now that I FINALLY have my blog back to normal (I love/hate technology), I can catch up on several posts that have been a long time coming. You may have already seen some of Lauren and Caleb’s engagement session on my Facebook Page, but here are a few more of my personal favorites! The two are now married, and their wedding photos will be featured in part 2 of this post (GORGEOUS ceremony, y’all). For their engagement session, Lauren really wanted to feature the fact that Caleb is an Oklahoma City Firefighter, so we incorporated a lot of those elements into the shoot. These two are ridiculous-cute together. Lauren is a 5-foot-one Sooner fan, but somehow her crimson-and-cream heart was snagged on this 6-foot-3, blue-eyed, tall-dark-and-handsome COWBOYS fan. That’s the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys, for those that don’t know; The house doesn’t get much more divided than that! In all reality, Lauren and Caleb make a perfectly adorable couple, though we had some trouble managing that height difference during the session–You try fitting both faces into the frame, with 14 inches of space in between! So far, they seem to be handling their differences in loyalty quite well…we’ll see how that goes around Bedlam time 😉 Enjoy the photos, and scroll down to read Caleb’s proposal story from Lauren’s perspective!

The Proposal:

(From Lauren) “Caleb and I got engaged on September 14, 2013. He almost blew it a couple of months earlier when he text me instead of his sister and said that he was about to order the ring! I ‘pretended’ that I did not read the message even though we both knew I did. We went to Tulsa on September 14th to go to a Luke Bryan concert. On the way to the concert we stopped at a botanical garden called Woodward Park. We were walking around when I noticed that we weren’t looking at any of the plants and flowers. We were walking quickly past all of them! Caleb led me into an area of the gardens that didn’t have many other people. Before I knew what was happening, he stopped walking and turned towards me and started telling me how much he loved me. Then he got down on one knee and proposed! I of course said yes!”

I’m finally able to share Megan and Chris’s Houston engagement session, now that Megan is back from Qatar! This was a very special shoot for me, because Megan has been my bestest friend since the 6th grade. I’m so happy she’s found her “Todd” (any Christy Miller fans out there?), and I have to say, she chose well. Chris is one of those all-around good guys, and these two are just perfect for each other. Megan and Chris met in college at A&M (boomer sooner), and I can still remember some of the first conversations Megan and I had about “that boy.” After graduation, Chris entered dental school, while Megan started her career as a chemical engineer. Fast forward to now, and we are all looking forward to their July 5th wedding in Magnolia! I hope you love the photos as much as I loved taking them.

It’s Wedding Hint Wednesday on the blog today! Last time, I discussed beautiful veil options, and some awesome alternatives to the traditional veil, and today I’ll be doing sort of the same! So redirect your attention to my pinterest board, and we’ll be looking at alternatives to the typical bridal bouquet (and a couple of REALLY gorgeous combos). I’m obsessed with the bride who believes that unique trumps tradition. I’m a big believer in being true to who YOU are on your wedding day (Well, on every day, but ESPECIALLY on your wedding day!), which is why I’m compiling these boards. Even if all these attempts to be different don’t always “work” according to the fashion police, there’s something to be said for going against the hydrangeas-and-roses grain (Not that there’s anything wrong with hydrangeas or roses—they were both in my bridal bouquet!!). You can do anything—From crocheted flowers, to pearls, to brooches, to QUILLING!—Find what you enjoy, what speaks to you and expresses from the bouquet your happiness and joy, and go with it! Work it, girl! (Yes, that just happened.)

Forget Thursday: We’re having a throwback Monday on the Lizard Blog today. Matt and Emily’s engagement session was JUST before my extended blogging maternity leave, but it is still one of the most unique engagement sessions that I’ve ever done—so I’ll be breaking their awesome vintage-inspired shoot into two posts.

We shot at 2 very different locations for this session. The first was at the Moody Mansion in Galveston, TX. A huge, enormous, giant thank you to them for letting us have such a gorgeous backdrop! Emily and Matt were completely decked out in vintage. Emily even wore her grandmother’s 1940s dress and had her hair done that morning to go along with the theme. She looked AMAZING. I was so incredibly happy to have clients who weren’t afraid to go all out and be awesome. I’m fairly certain that anyone who saw us around town thought they were professional models. And they could be. I mean, look at ‘em.

What I loved most about shooting at the mansion was the opportunity to use what some may consider very ordinary backdrops in a romantic and unique way. Some of my favorite shots from the whole session were in the BATHROOM. I know, call me crazy. But, hey, when it’s a bathroom with original tile, a GORGEOUS claw foot bathtub, and peach-colored plaster with just a hint of hurricane damage, you really can’t ask for more!

My entire journey with photography started years ago with me taking pictures of very ordinary objects that I found beautiful. Fast forward to this session, and I’m still doing the same thing, just adding a couple of ridiculously-good-looking, madly-in-love, vintage-clad lovebirds to the mix.

After the Moody Mansion, we headed across the street to a carnival. On a Pier. On a cloudy Galveston day. I was so giddy that I was nearly in tears. But here I’ll leave you, with some fabulous photos to view below and a perfect segway to the Carnival, part two of this session.
