An Inspirational Decor Shoot with Vernon Caldera

As seen in LonNy Magazine and Houston Brides Magazine:

A little while ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Designer Vernon Caldera of Houston, TX. Vernon makes some incredible pieces of art with his creative terrariums. I had such a fantastic time styling and shooting this session alongside Vernon at BHLDN in Highland Village.

From Vernon: “In Bonsai, the caretaker creates a vision of a forest on a small scale. I chose succulents and cacti because of their unique shapes, slow growth rate and minimal care. I wanted the viewer to think of the plants as citizens of that world.” Vernon asks the caretaker to name each terrarium after a city that speaks to them.

Vernon and I wanted to create a photo shoot that really showcased the natural beauty of his creations. BHLDN Houston was the PERFECT place to display such unique pieces of art. The entire store is just full to the brim with unique trinkets, decorative items, and of course, beautiful textures and clothing. We set up Vernon’s terrariums in three scenarios:

The first was an end table display. This could be a fantastic feature at a wedding on the guest book table or a great alternative to the traditional flowers found amidst ceremony decor.

The second scenario featured a series of creations along a buffet table, incorporated with many BHLDN decor pieces. How amazing would these look alongside the Reception buffet or cake table?!

The third showcased Vernon’s terrariums as an assembled centerpiece feature incorporated with BHDLN vases and tabletop items, photographed in the midst of more gorgeous BHDLN backdrop. Here we can really see how much natural beauty can be added just by creating a simple series of these beautiful and unique pieces.
