Look at me go!! This will make two blog posts in the span of just a few days! I told you I was excited to be back in the blogging world. Today I just want to share part 2 of Friday’s post. These are just a few shots from just a few AWESOME sessions I was able to do during my blogging break. I’m so blessed to have a job that I love, working with people I love, shooting moments I love! Hope you LOVE them, too!

Well, it’s been a year now!! I can’t believe how fast time flies once you have a little one! I decided toward the last leg of my pregnancy to take a year off from blogging, and it definitely helped me focus on more important aspects of my business, as well as entering into a new stage of life. I’m now Mommy to 7-month-old Hadelyn (Haddie Mae), a resident of Midland, TX, and I couldn’t feel more blessed than I am today! While it’s been a struggle (understatement!) to balance managing Lizard Nickel Photography with Mommy/Wife duties(and HUGE life changes), it’s definitely been worth it. I get SO MUCH out of photography. Anyone who has ever shot with me knows how “into” a shoot I can get. It’s cheesy to say, but I don’t care: Photography is my PASSION. It fulfills me, not more, but just differently than anything else. Just like Hadelyn fulfills me differently than anyone else–and God differently than anyone else–and Derek, and the list goes on. I always thought I’d want to be solely a stay-at-home mom once I had kids, and though I still get to do that most of the time, I’m surprised to find myself pursuing a career in photography–Surprised, and very grateful. And very blessed.

I think that the best way to get back into this, and to update you all on my work since last year, is to post today just a few favorite shots of the weddings I was blessed to shoot in this last year. I may go back later and do some more specific blog posts on these weddings, but for now, enjoy some of my favorites!! And next time, I’ll be sure to post some of my favorites from my portrait sessions!

With joy, Lizard.

As seen in LonNy Magazine and Houston Brides Magazine:

A little while ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Designer Vernon Caldera of Houston, TX. Vernon makes some incredible pieces of art with his creative terrariums. I had such a fantastic time styling and shooting this session alongside Vernon at BHLDN in Highland Village.

From Vernon: “In Bonsai, the caretaker creates a vision of a forest on a small scale. I chose succulents and cacti because of their unique shapes, slow growth rate and minimal care. I wanted the viewer to think of the plants as citizens of that world.” Vernon asks the caretaker to name each terrarium after a city that speaks to them.

Vernon and I wanted to create a photo shoot that really showcased the natural beauty of his creations. BHLDN Houston was the PERFECT place to display such unique pieces of art. The entire store is just full to the brim with unique trinkets, decorative items, and of course, beautiful textures and clothing. We set up Vernon’s terrariums in three scenarios:

The first was an end table display. This could be a fantastic feature at a wedding on the guest book table or a great alternative to the traditional flowers found amidst ceremony decor.

The second scenario featured a series of creations along a buffet table, incorporated with many BHLDN decor pieces. How amazing would these look alongside the Reception buffet or cake table?!

The third showcased Vernon’s terrariums as an assembled centerpiece feature incorporated with BHDLN vases and tabletop items, photographed in the midst of more gorgeous BHDLN backdrop. Here we can really see how much natural beauty can be added just by creating a simple series of these beautiful and unique pieces.

Zach and Amanda’s Wedding was absolutely perfect, and just full of drool-worthy handmade details that really showcased their personalities. Amanda and her mom, Cindy, made nearly all of the decorative elements, drawing most of their inspiration and DIY how-to’s from Pinterest. This included paper poms, centerpieces, chandeliers, and Amanda’s Brooch Bouquet. A few of Amanda’s brooches in the bouquet actually belonged to her grandmother. Their wedding was small and intimate, with only close friends and family gathered at the cozy bed and breakfast property in a classic, tiny Texas town. This little bed and breakfast provided the most perfect backdrop for the vision of their wedding. Their decision to have the ceremony at sunset made this photographer’s job even more fun (if that’s even possible). I was just gushing over the light and couldn’t get enough of these two!
